A Fourth of July Fable

On July 4th President Trump’s Favorability Rating (FR) was at 38% and the stock markets hitting all time highs. As the summer edged closer to the November 3rd midterms his FR trickled down a few points although the president appeared unconcerned, after all the campaign actually begins after Labor Day.

On Labor Day the president’s FR ebbed to only 30%, polling showed many Republican candidate races within the margin of error, statistically tied, in other words toss ups.

Trump ratcheted up his campaigning, jumping from state to state, unimpressive crowds, long rambling speeches, occasionally appearing to forget the name of the campaign he was supporting.

The polls predicted democratic sweeps in the House and perhaps the Senate.

A week before the election Trump announces he’s “federalizing” the National Guard in every state and ordering them to vet every single voter who will have to have proof of citizenship.

 Governors across the nation object, and refuse to comply.

The following day the president issues an Executive Order directing the military to “guard” polling places, the president claims he’s activating his power under the Insurrection Act, and claims Antifa is planning to stuff ballot boxes and ordering troops to “shoot to kill” to protect the nation from Communists stealing the election.

The Supreme Court, in an unsigned opinion, suspends the actions of the president and orders the election to proceed.

The voter turnout is far beyond expectations with exit polling pointing to a landslide for democrats.

At two AM on November 4th, Trump announces the counting of ballots must immediately cease and orders the military to seize ballots.

At 6 AM, Vice President JD Vance announces that he has invoked the provisions of the 25th Amendment with support of a requisite number of members of Congress and is assuming the office of the presidency.

The voter turnout count continues and the democrats have a majority in both houses 
Vance announces the now former president is in a secure location and receiving medical treatment.

President Vance in his first action is to nominate minority leader of the House, Hakeem Jeffries to the position of vice president additionally he asks the members of the cabinet to submit their resignations.

As their first action, with the overwhelming support of Congress, announces the cap on Social Security taxes has been removed, securing the trust fund until at least 2050. 

In a joint announcement Vance and Jeffries announce they are working together, a bipartisan national leadership. 

At the top of their agenda, a Medicare for All healthcare initiative, “…everyone is entitled to health care.”

The current immigration policies will be ended, “we will develop a pathway to citizenship.”

“We are working on legislation to restructure our tax system, the ultra wealthy should contribute to the economy, not aggrandize themselves.”
